LMC Mountaineering Club is a small, informal walking club consisting of people with a past connection to Shell and many other non-Shell folk.   Members are mainly based in London or the south-east, with other members spread around the UK.

We meet roughly once a month, either for day walks around London, or for weekends further afield throughout the UK.

We aim to provide a diverse and interesting Programme of walks.  Weekend meets over the past few years have included the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Teesdale, Northumberland, Shropshire, Isle of Wight, the Gower Peninsular, the Cambrian mountains, and the Brecon Beacons.  Day walks have taken place in Greater London, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Sussex, Kent, and Hampshire and have included sections of the North Kent Way, the London Capital Ring and the London Loop.  Members have walked many sections of the North Downs Way and the North Kent Way, and a group has walked the South West Coast Path in weekly sections over the past few years.  We stay mainly in B&Bs or pubs, with some meets based in self-catering cottages or hostels.

We circulate an entertaining and informative monthly Club Newsletter by email to members, containing reports of meets and news about forthcoming activities.  The Club is informally run by a small Committee with all Club members devising and running walks and meets.  We hold a combined AGM and Dinner weekend usually in January.

We are affiliated to the BMC and most of our annual membership fee (£26 for 2024) goes to the BMC in return for affiliate member benefits.  These benefits include significant  discounts (up to 15%) at outdoor suppliers such as Cotswold, Blacks and Rohan, plus combined liability insurance for our members, officers, meet organisers and walk leaders.

The Club (originally named Lensbury Mountaineering Club) was first set up in London in 1975.  In November 2015, we held a 40th Anniversary Reunion Dinner at Lensbury in Teddington: a memorable event attended by over 60 past and present members.  A large collection of photos and documents was on display, and a wonderful audio-visual presentation prompted much enjoyable reminiscing.

New members are very welcome - please get in touch with us for further information.
